Farewell Molly

Sad times for the Heath family. While we are looking forward to a new addition, we are mourning the loss of another. This weekend Molly, our Pembroke Welsh Corgi, is leaving us. Luckily, she's being adopted by someone she knows and we're confident she'll get to love her new home.

I've always been convinced that one of her biggest problems is her excessive cuteness. She's just way too cute and loves to cuddle. I think two of the things she does that just makes me smile are when she closes the front door behind her and when she chases her treats around.

We'll miss you, Molly!

Scouting is Magic!

Will is the Cub Scout committee chairperson in our neighborhood. This past month the pack meeting theme was "Abracadabra". Will put on an awesome magician costume and gave the group a juggling lesson. It was great fun.

Happy Birthday Lily

Our niece, Lily Heath, had her second birthday recently. We went to a birthday party that included volcanoes, bubbles and pinatas. Basically the most awesome Lily party ever.
Lily insisted that she have birthday hats at her party. Cynthia found out that the old-fashioned cone hats only seem to come in boy themes, so she got paper tiaras instead. I deeply regret not having a picture of Will in his tiara.

Lily got a bubble maker from Grandpa Heath and Aunt Becky. She was more excited about running the thing than she was about popping the gazillion bubbles that filled the room.

Lily had a way cute castle cake. Here she is eating the roof of a tower.

Reesy Cup

It's a GIRL!!!!
We are so excited to be having a girl. I've spoken to a lot of mothers-to-be (it happens automatically when you go to church with married students from BYU) and heard arguments for and against finding out what a baby's gender is. I decided I wanted to know and you know what? I love knowing. Sometimes it puts me into fits of excitement.

Okay, so the Reese's Pieces theme: Her name is Reese. Will likes to call her "Reesy-piecy" and I like to substitute the words "My little Reesy Cup" in the song "My Little Butter Cup" (Made famous by the Three Amigos movie).

I know that ultrasounds are not all that flattering, and I didn't even like looking at them before I got pregnant, but here they are anyway just in case anyone cares.

Reese's Head

She tried crossing her legs at the beginning of the ultrasound session, but we fruitfully persevered.

I was so excited after the ultrasound that I had to go do something definitely baby-ish. I therefore went to register for baby stuff and decided that Reese's room will be red and green, and I love ladybug anything.

The Latest Buzz

Actually, the content of today's blog is old news, but I finally just found and plugged in the chord to my digital camera and had pictures to share. Unfortunately, I lost some pictures, but I still have some to share.

Will decided that he wanted to buzz his head. He had let his hair grow out a little longer than usual and was sick of it. He got a major kick out of it mostly because I didn't beleive that he would actually do it. But he did, and I had the pictures to prove it- But I don't anymore, so you'll just have to believe me.

After he got his hair cut, I got jealous. I decided to take my hair to the chopping block, too. I do have pictures of my less than six month hairstyle progression. And yes, I do like my short hair.

Got sick of the limp, straight hair.
Thought curly hair would add some volume.
Got over the curly hair, decided to go with the pixie hair.

A Swift Kick In The Pants - Er, Stomach

I felt my little baby moving for the first time this last weekend. On Saturday I felt a kick and I was unsure if the kick was the baby or gas, but I thought it was the baby. On Sunday I felt the same thing and on Monday the little rascal decides to be an acrobat.

At my doctor's appointment last week on Wednesday, Dr. Wiley said that I should be able to start feeling the baby by the end of the month, and that Will should be able to feel kicks by the end of the next month. Welp, I don't know if any other woman will believe me because it's supposed to take longer for a mother to recognise the feel of the baby during a first pregnancy and it's supposed to be a while yet before kicks are strong enough for someone else to feel, but Will felt a kick yesterday. That's right, folks, I've got myself one strong kiddo whether you believe it or not.

Close Encounter of the 3rd Grade Kind

Since becoming pregnant, one of the things that has really bothered me the most has been my crazy heightened sense of smell. In the cafeteria where I work, I can't even go into our walk-in cooler to get food out, and even though my morning sickness has mostly subsided, it comes back in full-force when I smell the aromas of the kitchen.

For this reason, I have decided to quit my job, and my kind boss moved me to the checkout line instead of actually cooking food until my last day.

A third-grade boy noticed my absence from the behind-the-counter-scenes and asked me, "why haven't you been cooking the food as much?" I replied that "I'm having a baby, and sometimes it makes me feel a little sick." The third-grader got a solemn look on his face and tried to be sympathetic. "Oh," he said, "I know what that's like."

Another fun story that I adore, though it didn't happen to me:

"I was expecting my second child. One day, after a particularly unpleasant bout with morning sickness, my small boy asked, 'Mommy, is the baby in your tummy making you feel bad again?' I didn't feel inclined at the moment to have a conversation on the topic, so I replied with a simple, one-word answer: 'Yes.' Unfortunately, my son required more explanation when his next question came: 'Then Mommy, why did you eat it?'"
